Have your yarn wound into a center pull cake if you've found you love the yarn sold in hanks but you *don't* love winding them into a ball by yourself.  I have all the tools to neatly take that unweildy hank of yarn and wind it into a nice neat center-pull cake.  Especially useful for sock yarns!

Make sure the number of skeins to be wound is the same as the total yarn you purchased.

Purchasing this listing - one for each skein that needs to be wound - allows you to begin working on your project as soon as you receive your yarn; win-win!

If you purchase a fewer number of this service than yarn in your order, write in comments during checkout the colors you want to have wound into a cake. If I must message you for colors you need wound, this will delay shipping your yarn.

**NOTE** Please make sure you love the color before purchasing this service. Winding it into a cake makes it so that the yarn cannot be returned for a refund since it is not resellable.

Here are some questions that might help you decide if you need your yarn rolled into a cake-

  • What is the difference between a skein and a hank of yarn? A skein is a compact, cylindrical shape of yarn and is usually sold pre-wound and ready to work from (think Red Heart form.) A hank is a large loop of yarn, much longer than a skein, and is sold in a twisted shape which must be wound into a ball before working with it.
  • What does winding yarn mean? Winding yarn means taking a hank of yarn and wrapping it into a ball or winding it into a "cake". You can wind it into a ball if you have someone to help you.  This process is done using a swift and a ball winder.
  • What is the benefit of winding a hank of yarn? Winding a hank of yarn makes it easier to store, transport, and use than in its original shape. It also ensures that the yarn is not tangled or knotted.
  • What is winding yarn called? The process of winding yarn is called ball winding, winding into a cake or, more obscurely, skeining. This is often done using a swift or a ball winder but aganin, you can do this by hand if you have two people.
