I love the slowness of them, the simplicity. It is one of the reasons I hand spin wool.
That's exactly why I loved this video on YouTube. It tells of how the hand spinning and even the carding differed in different districts in Ireland. I was drawn to handspinning because it is so "simple", and yet, it has been commercialized a massive amount compared to what these women experienced. Wheels no longer have restriction to a "district", and hand carding? Who needs to do that anymore? *sigh*
This documentary was filmed in 1979. Enjoy the sheep, the accents, the wool, and the wonder of old fashioned simplicity.
